Compare the weather for each overnight region and the requirements of your chosen activity before fixing dates.
One country, different conditions
There is no single weather page that describes every Namibia itinerary. Inland heat and large day/night temperature changes differ from the coast, where the Atlantic shapes cool air and fog. Our weather page reports Sesriem only; use location-specific information for Walvis Bay or Etosha. Climate is a planning background, while a dated forecast supports the immediate departure.
Namib and Sossusvlei
The cooler part of the year can make desert walks more comfortable, but early mornings still require layers. Hotter periods demand careful timing and the operator’s instructions. A tour departing before dawn does not automatically include access to the dunes at sunrise: our shared-shuttle package explicitly excludes sunrise and sunset dune drives because the lodge is outside the park.
The Atlantic coast
Pack a windproof layer even if your inland stay is warm. Fog, wind, tides and sea conditions affect different coastal activities in different ways. The Sandwich Harbour operator can use a dune viewpoint if beach access is unavailable; the kayak provider adapts time on the water to conditions. Confirm the operational decision with the supplier rather than interpreting a city forecast as a guarantee.
Etosha and seasonal expectations
Dry-season waterhole viewing and wetter-season scenery offer different experiences. Rain can change roads and daily routes, and animals move freely. Choose a region and an activity you would value without a particular sighting. Warm clothing matters for open-vehicle morning drives, particularly during the cooler months.
Before fixing your dates
Compare accommodation, transport connections and the precise activity option for your dates. Leave room for schedule changes and avoid a tight flight immediately after a long safari. Read the Namibia Tourism Board climate and park information, then refresh local forecasts close to departure. No season guarantees animals, clear views or access.
